Ghost Signs
Ghost signs are little fingerprints that point to the past. They give you hints of how people lived their lives in a different time and show just the kind of things that people consumed, valued, and connected with in a way that doesn't have that individual, unique touch in today's world, since we view ads on TVs and phones for the most part as a postage stamp. I started documenting ghost signs around 25 years ago, seeing old signs disappear overnight. I was interested in capturing both painted and neon signs because they were being replaced by plastic crap with no character. Most of these images are from Toronto, S/W Ontario, Detroit, and Buffalo.
